Welcome to the Dinsdale Lab!

Dr. Elizabeth Dinsdale's lab at San Diego State University uses next-generation sequencing and metagenomics to understand the interplay of micro- and macro-organisms with their environments. Some of the systems we have investigated are...

  • California Sea Lion
  • Marine bacteria associated with kelp from San Diego
  • Vibrios from around San Diego Bay
  • Salmonella serovars from Germany
  • Marine bacteriophages and bacteria from the low-oxygen waters off Chile

Liz also teaches BIOL596 Ecological Metagenomics(pdf) here at SDSU. It is a great opportunity for undergraduates to get hands-on experience with next-generation sequencing. Last year, the students helped sequence the California sea lion genome at 12X coverage. In addition, students learn how to analyze genomes and metagenomes using current bioinformatics tools like MGRAST.
